Privacy policy

Introduction

Reel Audio Instruments takes the privacy of your personal data very seriously, in strict compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) legislation. You will only be asked to divulge information that is absolutely necessary to use our services or the products. Your personal data is never sold. It is shared only with the services that run our store, payments, licensing and newsletter, as described below.

Who we are

This site and our products are run by James David Hurst, trading as Reel Audio Instruments, who is responsible for your personal data (the data controller). You can email us at support@reel.audio, or write to:

Information processing

The website automatically collects and stores information transmitted by your internet browser. Including:

  • Browser type, version
  • Operating system
  • URL of the referrer (previously visited webpage)
  • IP address of the computer
  • Date and time of the server request

This data is anonymous, it cannot be linked to a specific person, and is not processed together with data from other sources. This data is used only for internal statistics and is periodically deleted from the servers.

Purchasing

Our store and checkout are run by Moonbase. Payments are processed by Moonbase and its payment providers, and your credit card or other payment details are never stored by us. When you place an order, Moonbase collects some data, which we can also see, including:

  • Full name
  • Email address
  • Billing address, used to add local sales tax
  • Business name and VAT number, if you buy as a business
  • Licences purchased
  • Date and time of the order

This data is required to process your order and issue your licence, which you activate in the plugin through your browser. Your use of the software is covered by our End User Licence Agreement.

Customer accounts

You need a customer account on this site to activate a licence, whether in the plugin or offline. A trial needs no account. Your account lets you see your orders, licences and downloads in one place. It is held by Moonbase, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.

Desktop Software

Our plugins contact our licensing provider, Moonbase, to activate a licence, to start a trial and to check from time to time that a licence is valid. These requests send:

  • A name and an identifier for your computer
  • Your operating system
  • The plugin’s version, format and processor type (such as Apple silicon or Intel)
  • The host application the plugin is running in

Moonbase also records the IP address each request comes from, and the approximate location it gives.

This data is used to manage your licences and activations, and to see, in totals across all customers, which systems our plugins run on. The plugins never send anything else about how you use them.

Newsletter

We use our newsletter to send news about updates, upcoming products and promotions. To receive our newsletter we need a valid email address as well as information allowing us to check that the owner of that email address actually wishes to receive the newsletter. Any other information requested for the newsletter is optional (e.g. first and last name). Permission to store this data, including the email address used to send the newsletter, can be withdrawn at any time.

When you sign up on this site, your email address is sent to Moonbase, which emails you a link to confirm your subscription. Moonbase passes confirmed subscriptions on to MailerLite, which sends our newsletter, and in using these services we adhere to their Terms of Service. You can change your mind at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in the footer of any email you receive from us, or by contacting support directly.

Cookies and browser storage

This site does not use cookies, nor tracking or advertising technologies of any kind. Our store saves a small amount of data in your browser’s local storage so that it keeps working as you move between pages:

  • A copy of our product catalogue and prices
  • Your shopping cart
  • Your sign-in, if you sign in to your account

This data stays in your browser until you sign out or clear this site’s data.

When you follow a link from one of our plugins, the link’s campaign details (which plugin, and where in it) are kept in your browser’s session storage until you close the tab, so that a purchase can be credited to that link.

Page visits are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies or identify you. Videos are only loaded from YouTube when you click to play them, and YouTube may then set cookies.

Right of access

You have the right to demand access to your personal data at any time, including origin, recipient and the use(s) to which your data has been put. To make a request, or to ask us to correct or delete your data, contact support@reel.audio and we will arrange it with Moonbase where needed. Records of orders are kept for as long as tax law requires.
